http://www.milagrosart.comBased in Queens, NY, I am a visual artist working with mixed media, primarily painting, drawing and printing. I am slowly branching out into the functional art market with My Paper Bag Company. I have been developing this new adventure since the end of 2008 a recycling project that I've begun, weaving strips of canvas-backed, acid-free paper into unique totes and handbags.
In addition to developing My Paper Bag Company, another project that I'm working on is titled One Calendar Year, 2010. This is a collection of paintings, drawings and constructions depicting moments, people and ideas of each month throughout the year that have left the deepest impressions on me. Each creation is on a frame 16x20 inches and made from recycled strips of acid-free paper mounted to canvas that are woven together.
Overall, I describe my work as meditations on a person, structure or object, so that the focus is purely on the matter at hand and the story surrounding the central image is for the viewer to create. Most of my work relies heavily on memory or snap shots because many of my subjects appear while I'm in transit, so I'll work from quick sketches with notes to be used later on and recreated using various mediums that are available to me or that work best for the idea.
